It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
