PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
